Lyudmila Markovna Gurchenko é nata il 12 novembre del 1935 a Kharkov, Ucraina. Nel 1953, dopo la scuola, comincia a studiare all'università VGIK di Mosca. Fa parte dello studio di Sergey Gerasimov e Tamara Makarovoj e si laurea nel 1958. Dal 1964 al 1966 lavora nel teatro «Sovremennik». Poi dal 1966 al 1969 é nel gruppo GosKoncert (State Estrada). Il suo debutto cinematografico avviene nell'opera di Yan Frid «La via della verità» nel 1956. Nello stesso anno compare nella commedia del giovane regista Eldar Riazanov «Notte di Carnevale», in cui i ruoli principali sono assegnati, grazie alle insistenze di Ivan Pyrev,all'ormai famoso attore Igor Ilinsky e alla studentessa Lyudmila Gurchenko.

Il film ebbe un enorme successo e per molti anni rimase una delle pellicole favorite dal pubblico di ogni angolo dell'Unione Sovietica. La Gurchenko grazie al ruolo di Lena Krylova, diventò una delle attrici più note del cinema russo.

L'anno successivo Lyudmila Gurchenko compare nel film commedia «La ragazza con la chitarra». Gurchenko showed her dramatic range in leading role of Maria in movie «Working settlement» in 1966. She received critical success in the film by Victor Tregubovich
«Old walls», in which she has played Anna Georgievna. The same year Gurchenko excellently played (and sung) in musical comedy "A straw hat", directed by Leonid Khvinihidze. Among Lyudmila Gurchenko's best works are the following movies: «20 days without war» by Aleksey German,
«Siberiade» by Andrey Mikhalkov-Konchalovsky, «Five evenings» by Nikita Mihalkov, «A Railway Station for Two» by Eldar Riazanov, «Beloved woman of mechanic Gavrilov» by Peter Todorovsky, «Flights in dreams and reality» Roman Balayan. In 1982 book «My adult childhood» was published
that was writen by Lyudmila Gurchenko. Later the actress wrote «Applause». Also recently several Records were released with songs performed by her. 

Shade

Director: Elena Kosheverova. Starring: Oleg Dal, Anastasia Vertinskaya, Marina Neyolova, Liudmila Gurchenko, Andrei Mironov, Sergei Filippov. A fairytale film after Evgeny Shvarts’s play is a wise and funny story about the struggle of a kind and clever Scientist against his miserable and mean Shade.

Five evenings

Director: N. Mikhalkov. Starring: L. Gurchenko, S. Liubshin, V. Telichkina, L. Kuznetsova, I. Nefiodov, A. Adabashyan et al. After the novel by A. Volodin. They met and fell in love twenty years ago, but the war separated them. After the war Ilyin and Tamara Vasilievna got together again and their love flashed out with new strength. Award for the best men's role to actor S. Lyubshin at Yer film festival (France).

A favourite woman of mechanic gavrilov 

Director: P. Todorovsky. Starring: L. Gurchenko, S. Shakurov, Å. Evstigneev, V. Shilovsky et al. Everything began when ship’s mechanic Gavrilov did not arrive at his own wedding. Rita has been waiting for him suffering and hoping for the whole day. And later on… Later on there comes love story. It always carries the audience away, moreover if the story is narrated in such a talented, unordinary way, and with humor. Ludmila Gurchenko was awarded the prize of “Golden Eagle” for the best women’s role at I IFF in Manila (1982).

Prohindiada, or run on the same place

Director: Victor Tregubovich. Starring: Alexander Kaliagin, Liudmila Gurchenko, Tatyana Dogileva, Vladimir Soshalsky. A comedy of morals with elements of grotesque and fantasies. The main hero is shown ironically for rendering all his energy to personal enrichment.
