Ballad of a soldier

Director: Chuhrai. Starring: V. Ivashov, Zh. Prokhorenko, A. Maximova, N. Kriuchkov, Å. Urbansky, E. Lezhdey et al. The given simple story of a young soldier on a short leave from the front is acknowledged as one of the best films devoted to the Patriotic War. It is an outstanding film which came into the golden fund of the world cinematograph. In 1960-61 the film was awarded the main prizes at the film festivals in Minsk, San

Francisco, Karlovy Vary, Canne, Milan, London, Teheran and Mexico. It was declared to be the best foreign film of 1960 in England, Poland and Greece. G. Chuhrai è V. Ezhov were awarded the Lenin Prize (1961) for the film “Ballad of a Soldier”.

Starring: N. Ribnikov, I. Makarova, Ì. Strizhenova, K. Karnovich-Valua et al. The film is based on the novel of Evgeny Vorobyov. The film story speaks about people of a “risky” profession, i.e. highscalers, their complex interrelations, problems and love, of course.

Two captains

Director: V. Vengerov. Starring: Alexander Mikhailov, Olga Zabotkina, Evgeny Lebedev, and Tatyana Peltser. A screen version of V. Kaverin’s novel, which a lot of generations of adults and children have been fond of. “Struggle and search, find and not surrender”, a romantic oath given by Sanya Grigoryev has led him through a number of years to the realization of his cherished dream, i.e. to become a polar pilot and find the traces of captain Tatarinov’s lost arctic expedition.

Carnival night

Director: E. Ryazanov. Starring: I. Ilyinsky, L. Gurchenko, Y. Belov, S. Filippov, T. Nosova, A. Tutishkin et al. Just having been released the film began to be cited. Even today four decades later it still remains one of the most famous film comedies admired by the audience. The first prize at the All-Union festival in Moscow (1958).

Forty-first

Director: Chuhrai. Starring: I. Izvitskaya, O. Strizhenov, N. Kriuchkov, Shapovalov et al. Based on the B. Lavenev’s story. The given film discovered for the world the name of director Grigory Chukhrai, one of the most outstanding figures of the modern cinematography. The film was awarded a special reward “For the original screenplay” at X IFF in Canne (1957).

Fate of the Man

Director: S. Bondarchuk. Starring: S. Bondarchuk, Pavlik Boriskin, Z. Kirienko, P. Volkov et al. After M. Sholohov’s short story. The given film is one of the most outstanding cinematographic works. It is a life story of the Russian soldier who has gone through the terrible trials of the fate: he lost his family and home, got into a concentration camp…But the fate failed to break down his spirit, he has survived and asserted his right to be the man, he also kept his ability to love… The Grand Golden Prize at I IFF in Moscow, 1959. A special prize “A crystal vase” at X IFF of the working people in Czechoslovakia, 1959. The Lenin Prize to film director and the main role performer S. Bondarchuk and camera-man V. Monakhov, 1960. A special prize at XVII IFF in Karlovy Vary, 1970.

And Quite Flows The Don (3 cassettes)    

A screen version of M. Sholohov’s novel. Screenplay: S. Gerasimov, Director: S. Gerasimov. Starring: P.Glebov, E.Bistritskaya, Z. Kirienko, L. Hitiaeva et al. Film studio named after Gorky, 1957-58. Being one of the most outstanding works of the national cinematography, the film recreates with a great artistic force and reality the dramatic events connected with the Soviet Power establishment on the Don which was accompanied by the destruction of the centuries-led way of life of the Russian Cossacks.

The film was restored in 1974, 333 min.

Cranes are flying

Director: Ì. Kalatozov. Starring: T. Samoilova, A. Batalov, V. Merkuryev, A. Shvorin, S. Kharitonova et al. The film narrates with an astonishing emotional power about people whose fortunes the war intruded mercilessly into. Not all have been able to undergo the given trial with honor… A tragical story of two lovers who were parted by war forever is in the center of the film story. The Grand Prize “Golden Palm Bough”, a special jury diploma, the prize for the best women’s role to T. Samoilova, the Prize of the French highest technical commission to director of photography S. Idiot

Director: I. Piryev. Starring: Y. Yakovlev, Y. Borisova, N. Podgorny, P. Parkhomenko, R. Maximova, V. Pashennaya, I. Liubeznov et al. A screen version of the first part of F. Ì. Dostoevsky’s novel (“Nastasya Filippovna”). The actors’ perfect performance, first of all that of Yulia Borisova and Yury Yakovlev, young theatre and cinema “stars’ at the moment of the film shooting, reproduces the slightest nuances of the psychologically complicated literary work with an intense dramatic design. The film is included in the elite list of the national films, i.e. Gosfilmofond (State Film Fund) collection.

My dear Man

Director: Iosif Heifits, Screenplay: Yury German, Starring: Alexei Batalov, Inna Makarova, Leonid Bykov, Boris Chirkov, Ivan Pereverzev, Yury Medvedev. The film screenplay laid the basis for Y. German’s novel “The Cause You Serve”. Y. German wrote the role of the main hero specially for remarkable actor Alexei Batalov who managed to create the image of the man of great moral fascination, the one who is extremely devoted to his cause. This man has retained the adherence to the principles of his youth through the years.
