Alexander Nevsky

Directors: Sergei Eisenstein; Dmitri Vasilyev (ñî-director). Starring: Nickolai Cherkasov, Nickolai Okhlopkov, Andrei Abrikosov, Varvara Massalitinova, Valentina Ivasheva et al. The film is about the Great Russian Commander Prince Alexander Yaroslavovich Nevsky under whose leadership the Russian warriors gained a historical victory in the battle against the Livon knights on Chudskoe Lake in 1242. “Reading simultaneously the XIII century chronicles and the present day newspapers one starts losing the sense of time difference because the bloody horror spread by the knight order of conquerors in XIII century does not differ much from the events taking place now in some countries of the world. That is why the film describing quite a definite epoch and definitely concrete historical events is perceived

(due to the spectators’ opinion) as an absolutely contemporary one…” S. Eisenstein. In 1978 due to the poll among the world cinematology experts “Alexander Nevsky” was included in the list of one hundred best films at all times and of all peoples.

Peter the First

Director: Vladimir Petrov. Starring: Nickolai Simonov, Nickolai Cherkasov, Mikhail Zharov, Alla Tarasova. A historical film by the script of Alexei Tolstoy that entered the golden fund of the Soviet cinematography. The end of XVII century and the beginning of XVIII one…It is the period of formation of the Great Russian Empire, the time of great changes and secret plots, great battle victories and palace revolutions, impetuous assembly merry-making and cruel bloodshed of executions. The film narrates about life, state and military activity of Peter the First, the first Russian Emperor.

Foundling 

Director: Tatyana Lukashevich. Starring: Faina Ranevskaya, Piotr Repnin, Rina Zelyonaya, Veronika Lebedeva. Olga Zhizneva et al. A film comedy. Various funny, serious and dangerous things happen to a 5-year-old girl Natasha who alone takes a walk along Moscow streets. Many people happened to be compassionate towards her destiny.

Chapaev 

Directors and screenplay: Sergei Vasilyev and Georgi Vasilyev. Starring: Boris Babochkin, Boris Blinov, Varvara Myasnikova, Leonid Kmit, Nickolai Simonov, Illarion Pevtsov, Boris Chirkov. The film devoted to the legendary hero of the Civil War is a masterpiece of the world cinematography. Its popularity was so great that the images of the heroes created by the remarkable Soviet actors have been alive in the contemporary Russian folklore till now.

IVAN the Terrible (2 parts) 

Director: S. Eisenstein. Starring: N. Cherkasov, L. Tselikovskaya, S. Birman, P. Kadochnikov, Ì. Zharov, Ì. Kuznetsov, Ì. Nazvanov, A. Abrikosov et al. An epic narration occupying by right a significant place among the classical works of the world cinematography. The film tells us about the epoch of unification of the feudal Russia divided princedoms into a powerful centralized state. There is given not only an original interpretation of the historical role of the first Russian autocrat Ivan IV in it but the film also displays the intensity of the personal tragedy of the tsar who began a mortal struggle against the insidious and malicious boyars…

Sky Slow-Mover 

Screenplay and Director: Semyon Timoshenko, Music: Vasily Solovyov-Sedoi. Starring: Nickolai Kriuchkov, Vasily Merkuryev, Alla Parfanyak et al. A funny comedy about the workaday routine at the war of the women-pilots of a military squadron during the years of the Great Patriotic War.

Zhdi menia (Wait for me)

Directors: A. Stolper, B. Ivanov. Starring: B. Blinov, V. Serova, L. Sverdlin, P. Gedaga, M. Nezvanov, N. Zorskaia et al. Based on K. Simonov's play and poetry. During World War II back on the occupied territory Ermolov orders war correspondent Vainstein to convey to a corps the film with pictures of enemy airfields and a note for his wife. Vainstein leaves and after a short time hears a shooting going on in the vicinity of the dugout. He assures Lisa that Ermolov is dead but she doubts and every day she hopes that tomorrow they will meet...

Director: Y. Raizman. Starring: V. Karavaeva, M. Kuznetsov, D. Pankratova, V. Altaiskaia, G. Svetlani, N. Gritsenko, V. Strzhelchik. The film about the ordinary girl, about her dreams, love and heroism. A debut for Nikolai Gritsenko and Vladislav Strzhelchik and the first big role for Valentina Karavaeva. The war interrupted the shooting of

this peaceful film. It was completed in 1942 in Alma-Ata and with a huge success was shown at the front line, in hospitals, all over the country.

Selskaia uchitelnitsa (Countryside teacher)

 

Director: M.Donskoy. Starring: V. Maretskaia, D. Sagal, V. Belokurov, R. Pliatt, P. Olenev, D. Pavlov, A. Lisianskaia, V. Maruta. Optimistic drama that began on the eve of World War I. After graduation from gymnasium in St. Petersburg Varia went teaching to remote village. Soon she met her St. Petersburg acquaintance - bolshevic Martynov. She married him but soon enough he had been arrested. After Revolution Martynov dies being a Commissar and she endures many a hardship fighting kulaks
