Nickolai Cherkasov
was born in Petersburg (27.07.1903). In 1926 he graduated
from the Leningrad theatre institute. There was work
in the comical group and in the theatre for
children. Since 1933 year Cherkasov entered the
Pushkin theatre collective. The first steps in
cinema were small, comical roles. Almost ten years
he wasn't really noticed by film directors and only
in 1935 "Hot days" and "Captain
Grant’s children" have opened
the dramatic gift of this excellent actor.
Alexander
Nevsky
and
Ivan
the terrible has made N. Cherkasov famous over the
USSR borders. These two images are his visit cards,
but there were many other historical persons, which
Cherkasov played. |

"The
Baltic
deputy", where the actor had role of an old
professor, was filmed the same time
with "Ivan the terrible", but it seems that two different
persons appear at the move screen. After war time comedy
"Spring" showed his brilliant comic gift still alive. The duet
with L. Orlova was unforgetable.

century does not differ much from the events
taking place now in some countries of the world.

That is
why the film describing quite a definite epoch and
definitely concrete
