Nikita Sergeevich Mikhalkov, the son of known Soviet writer Sergey Mikhalkov, grandson of Peter Konchalovsky, brother of Andrey Konchalovsky, was born on October, 21, 1945 in Moscow. He studied in children's studio at theatre of Stanislavsky, then at Shukinsky school. In 1959 he had first acting experience in movies, while still a student, in 1963 he debuted in Georgi Daneliya's film "I am Walking Along Moscow". In the beginning of his career Mikhalkov has also acted in VGIK, where he studied direction under Michael Romm.

The first film (short) "...And I leave for home" he has made in 1968, and his 'big' debut became a movie "Quiet day at the end of war" (1970). Nikita Mikhalkov's first well known work became film "At Home Among Strangers,a Stranger Among his own" (1974), In which he played a leaging role, was the director and co-author of the script. This adventure movie was one of the first of so-called 'eastern's in the Soviet cinema. The international recognition to Mikhalkov was brought by film "Unfinished Piece for the Player Piano" (1977), received first prize of a film festival in the San-Sebastian. Marcello Mastroianni played a leading role in "Ochi chyornye (Dark Eyes)" (1987),won best actor prize at Cannes film festival and a nomination at the `Oscars` - `Best actor`. in 1993 Nikita Mikhalkov's "Close to Eden" (1992) was nominated for best foreign movie `Oscar`. In 1994 Mikhalkov has acted simultaneously as the producer, the director, the author of the script and the featured actor in film "Burnt by the Sun", which won him an `Oscar` and Grand-Pri at Cannes festival. Later he again acted in the same capacities of his new international project "Barber of Siberia" (1998), which was shown in Russian movie theaters only in 1999 ...

At home among strangers, a stranger among his own

Several days of I. I. Oblomov’s life

screen version of the famous novel “Oblomov” written by I. A. Goncharov is a story of an
outstanding man who is wrapped up in the mire of bourgeoisie existence. Love will suddenly awake
in Oblomov the wish to live, feel and suffer but the given burst will die away as quickly as it
appeared…The USA national council of film critics called “Several days…” the best foreign film
in 1981 and 1982.

The film shows uneasy relations between close people in an ironic manner. The heroine of the film tries to put together bits and pieces of her daughter's broken family in a simple and unsophisticated way. Proceeding with most sincere and good intentions, she can't realize why her meddling in her daughter's affairs stirs up such a strong protest.

of S. Prokofiev’s play “A Talk Without any Witnesses”. Once having come to his former wife, he gets to know that She is going to marry his old friend, a prominent scientist whom He had
written an anonymous letter on. Being afraid of the disposure, He demands that she should change her decision. His “trump card” is his son Dima who does not know that She is not his real mother. She is compelled to sacrifice her personal happiness for the sake of her son’s love and peace of mind…. The film was awarded a number of prizes at the festivals in Moscow (1983), Kiev (1984), Valyadolide (Spain, 1984).

Ochi chyornye (Dark Eyes)

Director: Nikita Mihalkov. Starring: Marcello Mastroianni, Marthe Keller, Yelena Safonova, Innokenti Smoktunovsky, Oleg Tabakov, Yuri Bogatyryov. Aboard a ship late in the 19th-century, a middle-aged Italian tells his story of love to a Russian. In a series of flashbacks filmed almost entirely in creams, whites, and ochers, the clownish and superfluous Romano Patroni leaves his wife's opulent home to visit a

spa where he falls in love with a Russian woman whose marriage is a horror. He pursues her into the Russian heartland and returns to Italy resolved to leave his wife and marry his love. His amazed and appreciative Russian listener then narrates a shorter story.
