Marina Anatolyevna Alekseeva (pen name - Alexandra Marinina)

Marina Anatolyevna Alekseeva (pen name - Alexandra Marinina) was born on July 16, 1957, in Lvov to a family of lawyers. Marinina's grandfather worked in jurisprudence in Leningrad. In the thirties he was the head of the Leningrad Regional Court.

The Seventh Victim

Neither Nastya Kamenskaya, an officer with the Criminal Investigation Department, nor Tatyana Obraztsova, a detective, could predict that their agreement to appear on the TV satellite-link programme ‘Women in unusual professions’ would lead to tragedy. Straight after it goes on air, solitary, poverty-stricken people begin to die one after the other, and beside the bodies, the mysterious killer leaves messages which cannot be understood or deciphered. Who are these messages for, Nastya or Tatyana? And who will be the next victim? 

The Apparition of Music


Elena Dudareva, the successful owner of a tourist agency, has been murdered. The police manage to track down a blind young man, Artiom, who talked to the murderer. Artiom cannot describe the murderer, but he well remembers the murderer’s voice and the music he listened to. Throughout the investigation of this contract killing, Anastasia Kamenskaya has a difficult problem to solve: has she the right to put the young invalid at risk to find the murderer? 

Requiem

A young Moscow policeman is killed under mysterious circumstances. His bride, Lera, wears an expensive diamond ring, stolen during the killing of the wife of an important official. Lera lives with her grandfather, an ex-convict who killed her parents many years before, orphaning her. Anastasia Kamenskaya and her Criminal Investigation colleagues must unravel this tangle of mysteries. 

I Died Yesterday

Two contributors to the TV programme ‘Face without make-up’ perish when their car explodes. Some time later, the popular TV journalist, Alexander Ukhanov, discovers there is a contract out on him. It’s a contract put out by his own wife! Ukhanov unexpectedly comes under investigation by the police, over the death of Inessa, a witch. Anastasia Kamenskaya, investigating the explosion that killed the TV stars, and Tatiana Obraztsova, dealing with the death of the witch, try to unravel the complex knot of these two crimes. 

Men's Games

A maniac has appeared in Moscow, who, within a short space of time has strangled seven people. Eduard Denisov, a big-time mafioso, points out to Anastasia Kamenskaya, an officer of the Criminal Investigation Department, that there’s something in the case of the mad strangler that doesn’t add up; at least one of the victims has nothing to do with the serial killings. Taking up the search for the madman, Anastasia discovers, to her horror, that in all probability, someone close to her is involved in these crimes. 

The Victim’s Name is – Nobody

A young man is suspected of murdering his landlady, who has willed his flat to him as a mark of her gratitude for his day to day help. The investigation into this case, begun in St. Petersburg, unexpectedly gets mixed up with the killing of members of the landlady’s family in Moscow, where once again, traces of the same young man are discovered. It seems the murderer has been found…

Following the murder of the manager of the ‘Lozanna’ agency, Anastasia Kamenskaya, an officer of the Criminal Investigation Department, uncovers a strange sequence of sudden deaths among creative and scientific workers. She has to confront secret ‘offices’, with their own people in all areas of law enforcement. These ‘offices’ force Kamenskaya to be suspended from duty, and lead to an official investigation of her collaboration with the big-time mafioso Eduard Denisov.
